Primary years learning outcomes

The programme aims at supporting the students in their journey of discovering the joy of learning. The programme aims at enabling students to acquire knowledge, concepts, skills, values and attitude that will help them to become life long learners.

Evaluation

A Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation system is conducted. Students are assessed through regular class assignments, worksheets, and the term summative assessment.

Promotion Policy - Grade III - V

Passing Criteria:

To be declared Pass and promoted to the next class, a student must:

  • Secure at least 33% marks in each subject (overall score is based on Attendance, Notebook, Subject Enrichment, Project Work, Portfolio, Multiple Assessment, Unit Test/Periodic Tests, Mid-Term Exam, and Annual Examination).
  • Score a minimum of 25% marks in Mid-Term (20 marks) + Annual Examination (50 marks), i.e., 18 out of 70 in each subject

Re-Examination (Grades III–V)

  • Students who do not qualify in the Annual Examination may appear for a Re-Examination
  • Re-Examination follows the same syllabus and patternas the Annual Exam.
  • Internal assessment marks are carried forward
  • To pass in Re-Examination, a student must secure:
    • At least 18 out of 70 (25%) in the subject, and
    • Minimum 33 out of 100 overall
  • No additional benefits or concessions are provided in Re-Examination.

Essential Repeat

  • Class V: Students who do not meet the passing criteria even after Re-Examination will be placed under Essential Repeat (ER)

CLASSES VI - VIII (as per CBSE directive):

The assessment structure and examination for classes VI – VIII comprises of two terms i.e. Term I and Term II.

Promotion Policy - Grades VI - VIII

To be declared and promoted to the next class, a student must:

  • Secure at least 33% marks in each subject (overall score includes Attendance, Notebook, Subject Enrichment, Project Work, Portfolio, Multiple Assessment, Unit Test, Mid-Term, and Annual Examination).
  • Score a minimum of 25% marks in the Annual Examination (13 out of 50).

Re-Examination (Classes VI–VIII)

  • Students failing in the Annual Examination may appear for a Re-Examination.
  • The Re-Examination will follow the same syllabus and patternas the Annual Exam.
  • Internal assessment marks are carried forward
  • To pass in Re-Examination, a student must secure:
    • Minimum 25% (13/50) in the subject, and
    • Minimum 33% overall in that subject
  • No additional benefits are given in Re-Examination.

Essential Repeat

  • Class VIII: Students who do not meet the passing criteria after Re-Examination will be placed under Essential Repeat (ER)

CLASSES IX - X (as per CBSE directive):

Annual Examination (Board Exam for Class X) will take place at the end of the session, covering the complete syllabus, comprising Annual Examination – 80 marks and Internal Assessment – 20 marks.
Internal Assessment of 20 marks will include (A + B + C + D)
A) Periodic Assessment: 5 marks
B) Multiple Assessment: 5 marks
C) Subject Enrichment Activity: 5 marks
D) Portfolio: 5 marks

Students will also be graded for Visual and Performing Arts, Health & Physical Education and Discipline

Promotion Policy - Grade IX

Assessment Structure:

Promotion will be based on the cumulative performance in each subject out of 100 marks comprising:

  • Best 2 out of 3 Periodic Tests - 05 marks
  • Multiple Assessment - 05 marks
  • Portfolio - 05 marks
  • Subject Enrichment - 05 marks
  • Mid-Term Exam - 30 marks
  • Annual Examination - 50 marks

Passing Criteria

  • Secure minimum 33% marks in each of the five main subjects (two languages + Maths, Science, Social Science)
  • Score overall 33% marks in each subject (Internal 20 + External 80 combined).
  • Score at least 25% in the Annual Examination (out of 80 marks) in every subject.

Subjects with Practical & Skill Courses

  • For subjects with Practical/Skill components, students must score 33% separately in Theory and Practical
  • Skill subjects will not replace main elective subjects (Maths, Science, Social Science, Home Science, Music, Painting).

Compartment Examination

  • A student failing in not more than two subjects will be eligible for the Compartment Examination
  • The Compartment Exam will be of 80 marks (same pattern as Annual Exam).
  • Internal Assessment/Practical marks will be carried forward.
  • Students with medical absence in one or more subjects may appear for those subjects in the Compartment Exam as per the rules.
  • If a student fails/absent in three or more subjects, he/she is not eligible for the Compartment Exam.

Passing Criteria for Compartment Examination

  • A student must score a minimum 33% in the Compartment Exam and 33/100 overall (Compartment + Internal).
  • For subjects with Practical, 33% must be secured separately in Theory and Practical.

Fail

  • A student who does not qualify for Pass, Promotion, or Compartment will be declared Fail

Promotion Policy - Grade XI

The students will be evaluated on the basis of Unit tests and the two Terminal Examinations. The evaluation is continuous.

To be promoted to Grade XII, students must meet all of the following criteria:

Passing Requirements

  • Students must secure at least 33% marks in each subject
  • Theory and Practical/Project/ASL are treated separately. A student must pass both components individually - marks cannot be combined to declare a pass.
  • Students must secure the required pass percentage in the Final Term as well as in the Cumulative Result (Unit Test + Mid Term + Final Term) separately for theory and practical.

Compartment / Retest Policy

  • A compartment/retest will be allowed in only one subject.
  • The compartment exam will be held only once as per the school schedule.
  • Students must secure 33% separately in theory and practical (where applicable) in the compartment exam to be promoted.

Non-Promotion

  • Students who do not meet the above criteria, or require a retest in more than one subject, will be declared Not Promoted.
