Examination & evaluation

How each stage of the school is assessed, and the criteria for promotion — published in full.

By stage

How each stage of the school is assessed.

Classes I to V

  • A Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation system, assessed through regular class assignments, worksheets and the term summative assessment.
  • Learning areas include personal and social skills, structured value education, literacy, numeracy and digital literacy, science and technology competence, critical and innovative thinking, aesthetic appreciation, education for democracy, and health and physical education.
  • To be promoted, a student must secure at least 33% in each subject, and a minimum of 25% across the midterm and annual examinations combined.
  • Class V students who do not meet the criteria even after re-examination are placed under Essential Repeat.

Classes VI to VIII

  • Two terms, as per CBSE directive. Term I carries 100 marks — 30 internal assessment plus a 70-mark midterm examination.
  • Term II carries 100 marks — 30 internal assessment, 20 from the midterm and 50 from the annual examination.
  • Internal assessment of 30 marks comprises attendance (2), notebook (3), subject enrichment (5), project-based activities (5), portfolio (5), multiple assessment (5) and unit test (5).
  • Co-scholastic areas — arts, physical education and emotional skills — are assessed alongside the scholastic subjects.

Classes IX & X

  • Assessment follows the CBSE scheme: 80 marks board / annual examination and 20 marks internal assessment in each subject.
  • Internal assessment comprises periodic tests, multiple assessment, subject enrichment and the portfolio.
  • A student must secure 33% in each subject, taken as an aggregate of the external and internal components.
  • Subjects with practical or skill components are assessed separately for theory and practical, with the passing criteria applied to each.

Classes XI & XII

  • Assessment follows the CBSE scheme for the senior secondary stage, with theory and practical components as prescribed for each elective.
  • A student must secure 33% in each subject. For subjects with a practical, 33% is required separately in theory and in practical.
  • A candidate failing in one subject may be placed in the compartment category and permitted a compartment examination as per CBSE rules.
  • Non-promotion and retest policy at the Class XI stage follows the school’s published academic policy.
